MFRC Landscape Regions

The MFRC regional landscape program provides an "all lands" framework for collaboration on forestry and related natural resource issues. Landscape-level forest resource planning and coordination is organized according to a schema of six forested landscape regions (prairie and metro regions and are nonforest and are not currently included in the program). Each landscape has unique ecological, social and economic characteristics best considered on a regional basis. All six regions have a locally-led committee with a membership of diverse stakeholders representing the broad array of interests and perspectives in forest resource issues. Criteria followed in delineating the landscape regions were based on attributes outlined in the MN Sustainable Forest Resources Act (89A.06):

- broadly defined ecological units;
- existing classification systems;
- existing political and administrative boundaries; and
- current planning processes.

Regional boundaries fall on county lines, following DNR Ecological Classification System (ECS) sections as closely as possible.
