Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD)

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District works to promote health and well-being for the citizens of the 7-county Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area by protecting the public from disease and annoyance caused by mosquitoes, black flies, and ticks, in an environmentally sensitive manner.

MMCD is governed by a Board of 18 elected County Commissioners representing the 7 counties, and is funded by property taxes. As part of our work we map over 70,000 wetlands and wet areas, monitor changes in water level and presence of mosquito larvae, and make treatments using biological control materials.
