Koochiching County

Koochiching County was founded in 1906 and its name means “at the place of inlets” referring to Rainy Lake and Rainy River along the Canadian border. The total area of the county is 3,154 square miles, making it the third largest county in the State of Minnesota. The county has vast forests, world class fishing and abundant wildlife. The county seat of International Falls is referred to as the Icebox of the Nation and makes it the perfect location for cold weather testing companies. Rumor has it that Frostbite Falls, the home base for cartoon characters, Rocky and Bullwinkle, is named after International Falls.
