Resource Formats and Types

The Commons contains many different types of spatial resources including GIS datasets, services, web maps, printable maps and more. When searching for resources, the available resource type or format will be shown as a short name, such as "shp". You can also filter by resource format by using “Formats” filter on the left-hand side of search results (the "Formats" filter is below the Organizations, Categories and Tags filter options).

This page lists all the format types, their short name, and a brief description for all the format types you might find on the Commons. We've also organized the resource formats into groups to make it easier to find a format that meet your needs.
